Provincial or regional quality assurance
| | The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission is responsible for the following activities carried out in the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island: a) to review all new program and program modification proposals; and b) to monitor the institutions' quality assurance mechanisms to ascertain that the procedures they use to assess the quality of existing programs are performing adequately as quality control and quality improvement mechanisms.
The monitoring role is carried out by the joint Association of Atlantic Universities-MPHEC Quality Assurance Monitoring Committee. It functions as a peer review committee whose purpose is to advise and assist the MPHEC in ensuring continuous improvement in the quality of academic programs and teaching. A key outcome of the process is the provision of assistance and advice to institutions on ways to enhance their quality assurance policies and procedures. Criteria have been established for the assessment of institutional quality assurance procedures.
MPHEC is accountable to the Council of Maritime Premiers.
