All of the institutions listed on this Web site are members of
the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. As such,
they meet the criteria for institutional membership as set out
below and, commencing in 2005, will be invited to reaffirm their
adherence to these criteria every five years.
AUCC is the national organization of universities and university degree-level
colleges. In Canada, which does not have a national system of
institutional accreditation and where education, including higher
education, falls within the jurisdiction of the provincial governments,
membership in the Association coupled with the appropriate provincial
legislation is generally accepted in lieu of institutional accreditation.
Universities interested in joining AUCC must meet the criteria
for institutional membership. Applicants provide
documents and information to assist AUCC staff in making a recommendation
to the Board of Directors regarding the establishment of a site
visiting committee and to assist the committee in conducting its
review of the application. The report and recommendation of the site visiting committee are returned to the Board of Directors. If an application is approved by the Board of Directors, a recommendation is sent to the full membership which makes the final decision on all admissions.
For more information on AUCC membership, please contact the AUCC corporate secretary at membership@aucc.ca
