The wide array of
disciplines and fields of academic programming and
research offered by Canadian universities allows them to effectively respond
to the evolving priorities of Canada’s Official Development
Assistance program. When Minister Bev Oda announced the three new priority themes for CIDA in May 2009, it was clear that the UPCD program is already closely aligned with these themes.
This issue of UniWorld focuses on some of the CIDA-funded UPCD projects that specifically address the three priority themes of food security, economic development and children and youth. This issue also explores another CIDA-funded program, the Students for Development program and the Latin America and the Caribbean Research Exchange Grants (LACREG) program, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and how these two programs also contribute to Canada's development goals.
