Distance Learning for Rural Development

Project purpose:
The project aims to establish a sustainable Arabic distance-learning program in agriculture and rural development with appropriate infrastructure at the University of Mansoura in Egypt. Project partners are assisting Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MOLAR) in designing extension materials for use by the ministry's newly created rural extension units.

Key results to date:
To date, faculty from the University of Mansoura and personnel from MOLAR have improved their knowledge and skills in distance learning methods and techniques, curriculum development, project management, proposal writing, gender and development, graphics and multimedia techniques. Currently, the extension materials are being prepared by Egyptian personnel and steps are underway to improve the infrastructure of two rural extension units.
