Nursing teachers are developing their technological aptitudes through access to a state-of-the-art computer lab with Internet access and advanced training in e-learning methodologies. In addition, concepts of gender and health have been integrated throughout the curriculum of the KHI programs. A new module has been developed in the mental health curriculum which provides an approach to the treatment of mental health issues in children to include the parents, especially mothers. The project has also developed a curriculum for a Bachelor of Nursing Education Program. Other activities include: development of a research proposal for clinical modules; consulted for the Minister of Health to develop a new Rwanda University of Health and Allied Sciences; supported the program for 3 teachers to complete masters degrees and 1 PhD program has been started.

Renforcement de la gouvernance au Rwanda

Canadian partner:École nationale d'administration publique
Developing country partner: Institut rwandais d'administration et de management
Project duration:May 2004 - September 2010

Project purpose:
The objective of this project is to improve the capacity of the Rwanda Institute of Administration and Management in teaching, continuing education and counselling based on its clients' needs.

Key results to date:
Twenty-seven people from Rwanda's public administration, RIAM, civil society organizations and the private sector graduated from the ENAP with a master of public administration degree, offered in partnership with the RIAM. Four instructors from the RIAM were trained as tutors to facilitate remote dissemination. The library was enriched with 250 volumes. This project allows the RIAM to offer training sessions, notably on topics such as project management, monitoring and evaluation, human resources management and women's access to decision-making positions. These modules enabled the creation of custom programs, namely the "Governance and Local Management" program, which was developed and offered to 29 participants from 27 of the 29 districts that make up Rwanda. Five instructors were authorized to deliver the program. More than 10 female instructors were authorized to conduct various sessions on topics relevant to women, and 50 women attended. Fourteen instructors received training in teaching methods and the use of case studies. One hundred and twenty people attended a conference/debate on governance issues in Rwanda.
