Supporting university education for Aboriginal

According to the Environics Institute: “Pursuing higher education is the leading life aspiration of urban Aboriginal peoples today.” However, Aboriginal students face unique cultural and economic challenges. Only 8% of Aboriginal people aged 25 to 64 in Canada have a university degree compared to 23% of non-Aboriginals of the same age group.

Many Canadian universities have created programs attract Aboriginal students and support them through graduation. Our members believe more should be done.

Aboriginal leaders, like National Chief Shawn Atleo of the Assembly of First Nations, are also engaged in providing lifelong learning opportunities and postsecondary education for their youth.

We are committed in working with his and other Aboriginal organizations as well as governments to ensure a better future for Aboriginal youth.
