Cardinal Points: how North-South partnerships support internationalization strategies

Released September 2011

This report provides an overview of the Leader’s Symposium hosted by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada in February 2010. The symposium focused on Canadian universities’ approaches to internationalization and how North-South partnerships support those efforts. AUCC had invited Canadian universities with longstanding North-South engagement to share their experiences in developing their internationalization strategy, as well as those managing internationalization on campus without having any such policies.

Case studies

These six case studies provide a snapshot of how Canadian universities’ North-South partnerships strengthen internationalization efforts at AUCC member institutions. Each case study details the institution’s strategy for North-South engagement and its implementation process along with innovative features and programs.

Institutions were selected by AUCC in close consultation with an advisory group comprised of individuals who work in our members’ offices of international relations. The case studies provide a representative sample of North-South partnerships from our member institutions.
