		<description>This is very well put. I agree completely. When I had finished my PhD in Economics I did a lot of community outreach. And I too was amazed at how interested people in the community were. The problem is that one&#039;s life becomes preoccupied with children and a house mortgage and publishing and trying to climb the academic ladder.

When I retire, as Ms von Petzinger suggests, I will make a much greater attempt to reach out into the community and explain the work that economists are involved in.
