Profil

A first-class teaching and research institution, the University of New Brunswick (UNB) is one of the oldest public universities in North America. Located in Eastern Canada, UNB enrols more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UNB’s two main campuses are located in Fredericton and Saint John. It also has satellite campuses and programs in other parts of Canada and around the world.

UNB offers an international experience by attracting students from more than 100 countries. Students learn about different cultures through classes and special events on campus or participate in the study abroad programs to travel and study at the same time.

UNB is building a better university and a better province.  For example, this past year marked the grand opening of two major buildings on each campus that provide students with the best study, learning, and recreational spaces around.

The five-storey, 139,000-square-foot Richard J. Currie Center, named after UNB Chancellor and prominent business icon Richard J. Currie, is among the largest single construction projects in Fredericton’s history.

With this addition on the Fredericton campus, UNB’s athletic facilities now rival the best across North America and make UNB a leader in health and fitness in New Brunswick.

UNB’s Saint John campus is now home to one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly buildings in Atlantic Canada after the opening of the Hans W. Klohn Commons in 2011. It is a premiere destination for students housing the university’s library system, along with the Student Technology Centre, the Writing Centre, the Math and Science Help Centre, and the Commons Café.

With ten varsity sports teams competing in the CIS along with six varsity sports competing in CCAA, a large number of extra-curricular clubs and activities, and cultural offerings ranging from art galleries to resident musicians and writers, UNB offers a great student experience.

Now in its third century, the Fredericton campus is home to 11 academic faculties and is  connected to one of the most advanced computing networks in Canada. The fast-growing UNB Saint John campus has three internationally focused academic faculties.

UNB has more than 75 undergraduate and graduate programs. The College of Extended Learning makes UNB accessible around the world through distance education and web-based courses. UNB Saint John’s language institute, Saint John College, and UNB Fredericton’s English Language Preparation program welcome hundreds of international students every year, helping them to improve their language skills for academic purposes.

UNB conducts approximately 75 percent of all university research in the province.

In 2010-11, UNB attracted more than $53 million in research funding from various government and private sector sources.  Over the past 10 years  177 patents were filed, 101 license agreements were executed and 18 start-up businesses were created as a result of UNB research.
