A metropolitan university in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s offers a range of undergraduate programs in arts, science, commerce, and education, as well as an array of master’s and doctoral degrees and pre-professional programs. Unique study abroad opportunities combine with undergraduate research positions and co-op placements to extend the experience of learning beyond the walls of the classroom.
Saint Mary’s is a compelling mix of fresh sea air, ivy-covered walls, iconic buildings and state-of-the art facilities like the award-winning Atrium and Global Learning Commons. Large enough to boast a nationally recognized capacity for research, Saint Mary’s is also small enough to instill a deep sense of community and support. The university is home to students from across Canada and from over 90 different countries, a combination of backgrounds that creates an exciting, diverse and international community in which to live and learn.
The Faculty of Arts offers a comprehensive range of majors including Asian studies and criminology, and the International Development Studies program enjoys an international reputation as a vehicle for global change, combining theoretical insights and practical skills from both the social sciences and humanities.
Cutting-edge research in the Science Faculty extends to innovative fields such as green chemistry and environmental science. It’s home to Atlantic Canada’s only observatory, and the region’s only Environmental Science and Ecosystem Remediation Centre. Saint Mary’s PhD in Astronomy is the only one of its kind in Canada.
Recognized as one of the country’s leading business schools, the Sobey School of Business offers a PhD in Management, Master of Business Administration, Executive Master of Business Administration, Master of Finance, Bachelor of Commerce and a wide range of professional programs.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies offers 15 master’s programs across all faculties, one graduate diploma program, and doctoral programs in business administration, astronomy and psychology. A national leader in workplace health and wellness, Saint Mary’s CN Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has one of the largest collections of occupational health psychologists in a university setting in North America.
Research spans disciplines as diverse as the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, occupational health and safety, and finance and management. Within these faculties are hundreds of researchers including professors, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, technicians and graduate students.
