Profil

Over the past 16 years, Royal Roads University has concentrated on building a suite of high-quality, interdisciplinary undergraduate degree-completion, graduate and doctoral programs. The university, located in Victoria, British Columbia, pioneered a blended learning model that combines short, intensive on-campus residencies with online instruction and interaction, concentrating on developing leadership and management skills. This model was designed with the working professional in mind.

Students work closely with their classmates (their “cohort”) as a team, building relationships online and in person. Class sizes are smaller, allowing more time for interaction between instructors and learners.

In a recent Canada-wide survey of professional student satisfaction, Royal Roads University graduates gave the university very
high scores in major indices such as academic quality, faculty quality, relevance of programs to career goals, staff support, and quality of fellow students.

Masters degrees at Royal Roads are completed in two years, while undergraduate programs may be completed through an accelerated 12-month, on-campus program, or a two-year, online program. Royal Roads offers a broad selection of custom and executive development programs. The university also delivers programs internationally, providing top-quality Canadian education abroad.

Royal Road’s University’s Doctor of Social Sciences program is Canada’s first applied research doctorate designed exclusively for working professionals. It responds to the growing demand nationally and internationally for scholar-practitioners who can provide intellectual leadership in the workplace and help build sustainable organizations, communities, and societies in an age of global interdependence.

Research at the university is applied and interdisciplinary and falls within the themes of innovative learning, thriving organizations and sustainable communities, livelihoods and the environment.

Royal Roads University is committed to being a global leader in environmental sustainability and to conducting its activities in an environmentally sustainable manner. As part of this commitment, the university has recently opened a sustainable Learning and
Innovation Centre, increasing classroom and teaching space with minimal environmental impacts.

The university is set on a 227-hectare parkland campus along the ocean and is surrounded by old-growth forest. The centrepiece
of the campus is the 100-year-old Hatley Castle National Historic Site. Royal Roads University invites visitors and students to enjoy the castle’s formal gardens, the many hiking trails, and spectacular ocean views.
