Profil

Founded in 1899, Brandon University (BU) is situated centrally in Manitoba’s second largest city, and attracts students both locally and globally who are interested in obtaining a personalized education in an environment geared to the individual. Its people, facilities, programs and services, and warm Prairie hospitality set BU apart from other universities.

The City of Brandon is a full service centre with a rich agricultural heritage and boasts amenities, conveniences and a cultural environment typically found in much larger centres. Brandon is a progressive community with fine arts, music, recreation and entertainment that are the envy of larger cities.

Brandon University has rich traditions as a small liberal education university and is dedicated to the liberal arts and sciences. BU offers undergraduate degrees in social science and professional programs, interdisciplinary studies and performance through its Faculties of Arts, Education, Health Studies, Science and School of Music. BU is also building its capacity in graduate education and offers graduate degrees in music, education, rural development, and psychiatric nursing. In addition, BU is a co-participant in Campus Manitoba, a distance education program which offers a selection of university-level courses in numerous rural Manitoba communities.

BU values excellence in teaching and research; creativity, performance and innovation; environmental sustainability; intellectual integrity; and community engagement and partnerships. Small class sizes, accessible faculty, integrated and aesthetically pleasing campus and diverse student population combine to form a stimulating, supportive and personalized learning experience. Our liberal arts curriculum delivers rich content and educates students on how to apply knowledge so that they can make a meaningful difference as engaged citizens and leaders.

Home to a newly renovated Indigenous Peoples’ Centre and a Métis Student Lounge, BU recognizes and celebrates cultural diversity and is particularly committed to the education of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. A number of new Aboriginal success programs and services are being implemented, including an Essential Skills Series, an Academic Support Program, an Early Warning System and a mentor/tutor program, to ensure the success of our students.

In early 2013, Brandon University will open the doors to its brand new, state-of-the-art Healthy Living Centre. This facility will revolutionize BU’s athletic, sports, fitness and wellness program and will feature three full-size gymnasiums, an indoor four-lane jogging track and fitness facility.

The atmosphere at Brandon University facilitates productive and collegial research within one’s own department as well as between departments and faculties, enhancing interdisciplinary research. Brandon University’s research funding has increased 60 percent since 2007 as the university is successfully meeting the objectives within its Strategic Research Plan. Brandon University holds four Canada Research Chairs and a wide range of external research funding.

Brandon University supports student research and there are many opportunities for hands-on training on high calibre equipment in state-of-the-art facilities, enabling the next generation of researchers, scholars, and highly qualified personnel.
