The University of Windsor is a progressive, student-centred university, where the challenges of communities and of a world in transition inform the education it provides, the research it does, and the creative endeavours it pursues. The University of Windsor is committed to the highest intellectual standards and to applying teaching, research, and creative activity to issues of importance in the world.
UWindsor is now entering its most ambitious capital expansion since its founding in 1963 and has recently completed construction on a new state-of-the-art 300,000-square-foot, $112-million Centre for Engineering Innovation. The CEI will provide students and researchers with cutting edge laboratories and research facilities to focus on such areas as environmental sustainability, alternative energy, nanostructures, efficient manufacturing systems and lightweight materials. In keeping with the focus on research and development, the CEI features an industrial courtyard to facilitate collaboration among the university, industry and other partners and will enable a direct connection among education, research and industrial innovation.
As well, UWindsor has a Medical Education Building which houses the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry – Windsor Program. The buildings are two of the touchstones for the university’s tagline, ‘Thinking Forward’.
UWindsor is a comprehensive university with a large variety of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs in arts and social sciences, nursing, education, engineering, science, law, business, and graduate studies and offers an outstanding scholarship program that attracts high caliber students. It is an institution with comparatively small class sizes and a comprehensive array of student services, clubs and associations and provides students with a friendly campus atmosphere in a supportive learning environment.
The University of Windsor’s strategic plan, Thinking Forward, Taking Action, is a framework for people to become engaged in shaping the university’s future. The five priorities of this strategic plan are: providing an exceptional undergraduate experience; pursuing strengths in research and graduate education; recruiting and retaining the best faculty and staff; engaging and building the community through partnerships; and promoting international engagement.
These priorities guide the university’s achievements and enable its students, faculty and staff to make a better world through education, scholarship, research and engagement.
The University of Windsor is located 15 minutes from the start of Highway 401 and Michigan’s I-75 and faces the Detroit River on one of Canada’s most beautiful waterfronts. Its location uniquely positions UWindsor to be an internationally-oriented, multi-disciplined institution that actively encourages a broad diversity of students, faculty and staff. Each year more than 16,000 students achieve their personal and professional goals on campus. The campus’s characteristics of openness, warmth and support make it an exceptionally welcoming community for students and faculty from Canada and around the world, as well as more than 100,000 alumni worldwide.
