Profile

The University of Winnipeg is an urban campus located in the heart of Winnipeg. UWinnipeg is a student-focused institution noted for academic excellence, Indigenous education scholarship, small class sizes, and campus diversity. UWinnipeg programs offer career-oriented education, anchored in strong academic practices with practical applications. UWinnipeg provides a welcoming and respectful environment for all students with a strong commitment to accessible, community-based education.

UWinnipeg promotes lifelong learning and making postsecondary education accessible to non-traditional and underrepresented populations such as rural, Indigenous, inner-city and new Canadian students. It offers diverse interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its Faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, Education, Graduate Studies, Kinesiology, Science and Theology.

The university’s innovative GlobalCollege offers a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing pressing global issues for students as well as local, national and international communities. Global College is an interdisciplinary collaboration that houses UWinnipeg’s BA in Human Rights and Global Studies and its MA in Peace and Conflict Studies, a joint program with the University of Manitoba.

UWinnipeg has embarked on a major drive to extend its academic excellence by promoting graduate training and research innovation. The university offers several innovative master’s degree programs including the unique Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) in Indigenous Studies. UWinnipeg is one of only 23 universities worldwide to offer this internationally-recognized designation. Examples of other programs offered are an MSc in Applied Computer Science and Society, an MSc in Bioscience, Technology and Public Policy and an MA in English with a focus on cultural studies.

The university offers other joint master’s programs with the University of Manitoba in public administration, history and religious studies. Several applied programs are offered jointly with Red River College, while international development and conflict resolution studies are offered through Menno Simons College, an affiliate of UWinnipeg.

The university expanded its campus with the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, a leading-edge science facility that is a model of green building technology, attracting leading researchers from around the world. The university has completed numerous other capital projects in recent history, including the AnX student centre and McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence. The UWinnipeg’s renaissance is helping to revitalize and strengthen Winnipeg’s downtown community.

UWinnipeg offers undergraduate students high-quality training and the unique opportunity to engage in ongoing and innovative research, for example in international policies. These research opportunities are expanding as UWinnipeg takes on a leadership role in environmental education.

UWinnipeg is an innovative and flexible centre for excellence in emerging and established academic fields, and, most importantly, a place that puts students first.
