Redeemer University College is a non-denominational Christian undergraduate university offering courses and programs leading to a bachelor’s degree in arts, science or education.
Redeemer’s focus on liberal arts and science enables all students – regardless of their major – to receive a broad, comprehensive education that provides a solid basis for graduate study or employment. A Redeemer university education is marked by academic excellence and is enhanced by a number of experiential learning experiences such as off-campus study opportunities, co-op placements and internships. NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards and government-sponsored faculty grants support summer student research in the social and natural sciences. All of Redeemer’s programs are taught from a distinctly Christian perspective, allowing students to explore the relationship their faith has on their studies.
This comprehensive education takes place within the context of a caring campus community. Small class sizes and a low faculty-to-student ratio contribute to a vibrant, interactive classroom experience where faculty and students fully engage with each other in the learning process. Outside the class, townhouse and apartment-style residences promote a sense of community and a supportive environment. More than half of all students, including nearly all first- and second-year students, live on campus.
Studies are further complemented by co-curricular activities, such as music, theatre, athletics, chapel and community service, all of which contribute to the development of the intellectual, social, spiritual and creative aspects of the student.
Redeemer’s 86-acre campus includes the facilities and technology to ensure that a student’s education is both productive and enjoyable. There is a full range of arts and culture spaces to allow the creative process to flourish, and the Athletic Centre includes a domed, turfed sports field for year-round play. The campus is near the retail and entertainment centre known as the Meadowlands, and there is easy access to all the recreational and cultural opportunities provided by the City of Hamilton.
There are 46 full-time faculty at Redeemer, 80 percent of whom have PhDs or equivalent degrees. Redeemer’s faculty are active in research, writing and other scholarly functions, often in conjunction with colleagues from academic institutions across Canada and around the world.
Through the work of its faculty and research centres, cultural events, a growing continuing education program, the community service of staff and students, and the impact of its alumni, Redeemer University College is making a constructive contribution to Canadian higher education and society as it serves its students and the community locally and globally.
