Profile

In 2012, Mount Royal University enters its second century of  academic excellence and dedication to the success of its students.

Founded as a college in 1910, Mount Royal became a university in 2009. Smaller classes; highly qualified faculty who know students by name; personalized student support services — all have been distinctive elements of the Mount Royal experience over the past 10 decades, and our single-minded dedication to premier undergraduate education builds on this legacy.

Mount Royal offers more than 60 degree, applied degree, diploma and certificate programs through eight faculties. For more than 13,000 credit students each year, Mount Royal’s programs combine liberal and applied studies to provide individual fulfillment, opportunities for further studies and employment to its graduates.

More than 900 tenured and tenure track faculty from every discipline share a passion for teaching that is informed by leading-edge scholarship. The Faculty of Teaching and Learning — unique in Canada — also enables faculty to conduct research into successful student learning and effective teaching, and to enrich their own teaching skills.

Located in Calgary, Alberta, Mount Royal shares many characteristics with its diverse and dynamic host city: innovation, friendliness, entrepreneurial energy and limitless potential. The park-like campus is centrally located, giving easy access to all the city has to offer,  and to spectacular outdoor recreation opportunities in the foothills and Rocky Mountains.

The university is home to research-focused institutes including the Institute for Nonprofit Studies, the Integrative Health Institute, the Institute for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, the Centre for Child Well-Being and a Criminal Justice Research Lab.

With all of those strengths, as well as a vibrant international education program, personalized academic and student support services, highly successful athletics teams, modern facilities and an outstanding recreation centre, Mount Royal University is a diverse, scholarly community where students come face-to-face with their own incredible potential every day.
