Student assistance
Undergraduate: The University of Toronto is committed to the principle that no Canadian student accepted to a program will be unable to enroll/complete a program due to calculated unmet financial need, as assessed by the criteria of the Ontario Student Assistance Program. The university offers approximately 1,500 admission scholarships, more than 4,000 in-course scholarships under different scholarship programs, bursaries and a work-study program. The University of Toronto National Scholarship Competition awards approximately 12 scholarships each year. These are valued at tuition and incidental fees for four years of undergraduate study, residence support in first year, and an additional cash award that is responsive to financial need. The University of Toronto Scholars program recognizes outstanding students at admission and on an on-going basis. A total of 150 admission awards, valued at $5,000 each, may be held alongside admission awards students receive from their college/faculty. In-course scholarships, worth $1,500, are also available.

Graduate: The University of Toronto is committed to the financial support of graduate students in doctoral-stream programs. That is why the University of Toronto was the first Canadian university to provide financial commitment to eligible doctoral-stream students for up to five years of study. The minimum level of financial commitment is at least $15,000 plus tuition to eligible doctoral-stream students. The U of T fellowship program awards more than 4,000 full-time graduate students each year. Individual departments offer research assistantships, especially to excellent students in the physical and life sciences, and teaching assistantships. University research

The University of Toronto is one of Canada's top research university. Our internationally-renowned scholars are engaged in research that has a tangible impact on every aspect of society. Here and around the world, they are finding new treatments for disease, developing solutions for local and global social and economic issues, and creating knowledge that advances our understanding of the world we live in.

State-of-the-art research facilities provide scholars and students access to the latest tools needed to perform this research. For example, at the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, investigators from medicine, pharmacy, and applied science and engineering, come together in an open environment that encourages new ways of approaching biological problems by stimulating unconventional interactions among disciplines.

U of T recognizes the important relationship between leading research and undergraduate teaching and provides students with continuous opportunities for research experiences from the time they accept admission to the university, through course work and summer experiences until graduation.

International education

The University of Toronto offers an array of opportunities that emphasize meaningful international experiences, both in Canada and internationally. In Canada, the University is committed to recruiting faculty and students from around the world, bringing varied international perspectives into the classroom. In terms of international opportunities, there are a range of out-of-country programs including international internships, co-op placements, study abroad, and international exchange opportunities. These experiences deepen students’ educations and create employment and career pathways for them upon graduation.

Many faculty members are international leaders in their fields and graduates have gone on to live and work in over 160 countries. The University of Toronto has over 120 partnerships in 34 countries. Every year, over 1,200 U of T students take advantage in educational opportunities around the world. There are a number of international internship and co-op opportunities for students.
