Profile
Saint Paul University is a Catholic, ecumenically-oriented, bilingual institution located in Canada’s capital
and dedicated to the understanding of the Christian faith and its integration in daily life. Founded in 1848 as the College of Bytown, it became the University of Ottawa
in 1866 and Saint Paul University in 1965. Saint Paul University is federated with the present University of Ottawa and gives its degrees jointly with this university.
There are fewer than 1,000 students, so classes are small
and the atmosphere is friendly. Multiculturalism is evident as more than 45 countries are represented within the student population.
Students, faculty and administration are proud of the university library, the largest religious studies research library in Canada, specializing in religious history, theology,
ethics, canon law, conflict studies, medieval studies and philosophy. Course offerings are rich in areas such as pastoral counselling, mission studies and inter-religious dialogue, theology, ethics, biblical studies, spirituality, canon law, Anglican studies
and Eastern Christian studies.

University research
Be it ethics or conflict studies, to mention but those
two, the disciplines taught at Saint Paul University are such that its academic research focuses on fields that are deemed of considerable interest to the Canadian population at large. In a constant effort to better serve this population, Saint Paul University is currently preparing
new research programs, including a PhD in Conflict Studies and another in
Counselling and Spirituality.
Saint Paul University seeks out undergraduate students who show an aptitude for graduate studies and actively encourages them to follow through in that direction. In order to further develop
its aid to graduate students, the university has just added
to its admission scholarships a new academic excellence scholarship program for doctoral students.
International education
Saint Paul University believes that, within the framework
of their university studies, it is important for students
to be able to engage in training courses abroad, and that the presence of students from other countries vastly enriches the student experience on campus. Saint Paul University's international services promote student mobility at an international level, and further increase the number of international students on campus.
Saint Paul University is a member of a consortium of nine Canadian, American and Mexican universities encouraging student mobility. With support from the North American Mobility in Higher Education Program from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, over the next three years, this consortium will
allow 21 students from each one of its member universities to engage in training courses in any of the
other two countries belonging to the consortium.
Saint Paul University’s international services are currently paving the way for student mobility partnerships with a number of universities, mainly
in Europe and Asia.
