Student assistance
Undergraduate:
Mount Allison disburses in excess of $2 million annually on scholarships, bursaries and prizes. In September 2009, more than 65 percent of the entering class received an entrance scholarship or bursary. Scholarships range from approximately $500 to $12,000 fully renewable for four years. Eligibility will be considered automatically as part of the admissions process. Students with a calculated admission average of 80 percent and over are considered for entrance scholarships. Canadian and international students are considered equally. Mount Allison scholarships are based on academic standing, extracurricular involvement, leadership and participation in campus life. The Bell Scholarships require submission of a 500-word essay in addition to strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extra-curricular activities, work experience and good citizenship. Mount Allison bursaries are based on financial need. The average bursary is between $500 and $1,500, with several valued up to $2,500. In addition, there are bursaries to help with the purchase of textbooks and art supplies.
University research
Mount Allison’s researchers explore issues of fundamental concern to Canadians today -- climate change, new drug discovery, culture and creativity, global politics and national identity.
Mount Allison is renewing and renovating its research facilities, including the addition of a new state-of-the-art Aqua lab, which simulates ocean environments for research on fish, and new environmental controls in our chemistry labs.
Students are engaged in research throughout their degrees. Through fellowships and internships, they work closely with internationally recognized researchers. Students enjoy excellent access to funding for self-directed summer research in all disciplines. Students are regularly invited to participate in workshops and conferences where they have the opportunity to meet with the best minds in the world.
The small size means access, support and collaboration. Mount Allison's reputation for research excellence means a world of opportunity for students and faculty alike.
International education
Mount Allison is committed to an increasingly global educational environment, through collaborative research, cross-cultural clubs, and academic student exchange and study-abroad programs. While achieving its goal of a
10 percent international student population, the university is enhancing the services it provides for international students, including a president’s committee on international students, a senate committee responsible for internationalization policies, an international advisor, a vibrant international orientation process and an international centre in the new Wallace McCain Student Centre, which opened in September 2008. A strong local World University Service of Canada chapter and Mount Allison's Society of All Nations offer international support and perspective. Academic credit is available for student-initiated international experiential learning. This
is a valuable enhancement to an extensive suite of for-credit exchanges and study abroad programs, including the prestigious Killam Fellowship. Exchange opportunities for study and research (14 programs in 11 different countries) are complemented by four study abroad programs in the United States, France, China and India. Our Leadership Mount Allison program includes a global connect option that provides international leadership opportunities. Mount Allison has recently partnered on
two NAFTA North American Mobility Projects, increasing the movement of students and faculty between Canada,
the United States and Mexico over the next four years. Finally, Mount Allison is committed to the involvement
of its faculty and staff in the networks that support international education in Canadian universities, including the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada
and the Canadian Bureau for International Education.
