Profile
Located at the centre of Canada’s beautiful Niagara Peninsula in St. Catharines, Ontario, Brock University is the only Canadian university with the distinction of being part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The university offers strong undergraduate, graduate and interdisciplinary degree programs that include co-op and other experiential learning opportunities to a student population of more than 17,000. The university also operates a campus in Hamilton, Ontario, that is used primarily for teacher education.
Brock University graduates continue to enjoy one of the highest employment rates of all Ontario universities at 96.5 percent. Brock celebrates the success of its 63,000 graduates who apply their degrees to careers throughout Canada and around the world.
Our commitment to the individual student and to the highest possible standards of teaching and research excellence is reflected in the growing numbers applying to Brock. To meet the increasing demand for a Brock education, plans are underway for additional construction to expand the campus.
Brock students can expect the close, personal attention of a dedicated faculty and the opportunity to explore their academic interests, in collaboration with graduate students, through participation in seminars and labs. They can also take advantage of a growing number of international partnerships.
The university is expanding the number of programs offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is introducing new co-op programs across all faculties. Brock offers one of the largest selections of co-op programs in Canada.
Brock serves the Niagara region as a cultural, academic and recreational centre and offers the community excellent facilities for people of all ages. We are also dedicated to fostering an environment that serves our community both within and outside of Brock. By encouraging campus engagement in volunteer and community events, we are committed to building our community.
The Brock campus is a friendly and inclusive environment. The park-like setting of the university, with its wide-open spaces, offers a number of outdoor activities at any time of year.
Opened in 1964, Brock was named for Maj.-General Sir Isaac Brock, who lost his life at Queenston Heights in the War of 1812. His last words are said to be, "Surgite! Push on!" - which have become the university's motto.

Housing
On-campus: Brock accommodates approximately 2,400 students in two styles of residences: traditional style (1,200 beds) and townhouses (1,200 beds). Students living in the traditional-style residences are accommodated in “halls” or “houses” with 40-60 other students; all must purchase a meal plan. Those living in townhouses share a “unit” with two, three or four other students (meal plans are optional). Single and double rooms are in both styles of residences.
For those with special needs, documentation and communication with the Department of Residences and Services for Students with Disabilities Office is required prior to application deadlines.
Range of cost for 2008-2009 academic year: traditional-style residences including mandatory meal plan: $7,475 to $9,240; townhouse residences: $4,825 to $6,160. There are several food service facilities on campus, including two residence dining halls and a variety of retail outlets.
Off-campus: The off-campus living office (OCL) provides information and materials to assist students in their search for accommodations off-campus. Listings of available accommodations are available on the OCL website along with a wealth of other information relating to off-campus living. Additionally, if students have questions about the Residential Tenancies Act, leases or municipal bylaws, the OCL staff can help to find the answers and available resources. As well, Brock's community connections department works to engage students in a broad range of community programs, events and volunteer opportunities.

Minimum doctoral funding packages typically begin at approximately $17,500/year.
University research
The people who work and study at Brock are critical to the university’s progress in research. To that end, Brock invests in people – faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, research support personnel in laboratories and studios. Sponsored research funding has grown substantially, allowing Brock
to attract outstanding scientists and scholars, including Canada Research Chairs. External funds have facilitated
the expansion of the research infrastructure, including the world-renowned Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute and the Jack and Nora Walker Canada Centre for Lifespan Development Research. External grants attracted by researchers support undergraduate and graduate students as research assistants as well as post-doctoral fellows from across the world. This growth in funding demonstrates confidence in our faculty’s ability to lead the innovation process in the Niagara Region. Brock is at the core of the innovation agenda for Niagara – innovation in the arts, social sciences, business, education, health, and applied science.
International education
Brock values internationalization by welcoming the world’s ideas and cultures, thereby creating a dynamic interaction with our own. A significant part of this process is performed by international students coming to Brock and by Canadian students going abroad on student exchange programs.
Brock is home to approximately 1,000 international students from more than 90 countries. These students are encouraged to participate in campus and community life through many programs such as our annual Celebration of Nations and African Heritage Month.
Brock administers exchange programs with universities on six continents, and is involved in more than 35 formal, active exchange agreements. While our exchanges are one- or two-term placements, Brock also offers shorter-term international education experiences through its service learning programs to countries such as Peru, Brazil, and Namibia.
