AUCC website privacy policy

The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy, by following responsible information handling practices in keeping with the federal Personal Info rmation Protection and Electronic Documents Act, as well as any applicable provincial privacy legislation.

The AUCC website privacy policy applies to the AUCC website only and is subject to the AUCC Privacy Code. Other AUCC program privacy policies may also be accessed below.

Internet Aspects:

Personal information may be collected when a user conducts activities on or related to all AUCC websites, as well as our database site containing the Directory of Canadian University listings, found under the oraweb.aucc.ca domain.

Use of Cookies

AUCC websites automatically recognize your domain name, IP address, browser version, operating system, and other salient data about your computer, as well as the site you passed through to reach us. The AUCC uses a browser feature called a “cookie” to collect information anonymously and track user patterns on AUCC websites. This cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by our website and remains there unless it is deleted by you.

“Cookies” contain a unique identification number that identifies your browser, but not you, to our computers each time you visit one of our websites. Cookies tell us which pages of our websites are visited and by how many people. They also allow us to save your settings and preferences for future visits, enabling you to customize your experience of our websites. Information gathered through the use of cookies is not related to any personally identifiable details.

The use of cookies is an industry standard, and many major browsers are initially set up to accept them. You can reset your browser to either refuse to accept all cookies or to notify you when you have received a cookie. However, if you refuse to accept cookies, you may not be able to use some of the features available on our websites.

Why we occasionally collect personal information and what we do with it

AUCC does not collect personal information on our Web site without your consent. We make every reasonable effort to make sure that you understand how your personal information will be used.

We collect information about you on our Web site when you provide it voluntarily. In stances where we may collect your personal information include:

  • when you subscribe to e-mail alerts regarding career advertisements and upcoming issues of University Affairs’ magazine;
  • when you subscribe online to receive the University Affairs’ magazine;
  • when you complete an online application form for scholarships or international programs administered by AUCC;
  • when you voluntarily register online for events organized by AUCC;
  • when you pay online for your registration of AUCC events, we share personal and financial information with our merchant account and banking vendors only to the extent necessary to process the registration and payment*.

*Note: AUCC does not store personal financial information on its servers.

Do we share personal information with third parties?

We do not disclose personal information to third parties except as stated in this policy.

University Affairs’ magazine

Occasionally we make our University Affairs’ magazine subscriber list available to carefully screened companies. These carefully screened companies include universities, magazine and book publishers, providers of training seminars, and companies that supply education and business-related technology tools. Only names and addresses of subscribers are disclosed.

If you wish to receive a list of all companies that have purchased our subscriber list, please contact University Affairs at ua@aucc.ca.

Scholarships and programs administered by AUCC

Personal information that you have provided on-line for scholarships or programs administered by AUCC may be shared with a funding agency or scholarship sponsor for the purpose of administering the scholarship or program, or for monitoring, verifying and evaluating the administration of the scholarship or program by AUCC. On occasion, if you are recommended for or if you are receiving a scholarship, program funding or program assistance, scholarship sponsors or funding agencies will we seek consent in order to disclose recipient information for program or scholarship publicity purposes. Scholarship applications and privacy statements outlining the purposes for which your personal information may be collected, used or disclosed, and containing the consents or instructions to opt-out from such collection, use or disclosure are included with all scholarship and program application materials.

Withdrawing consent

You may withdraw your consent to the use or disclosure of your personal information at any time by contacting the AUCC privacy officer at privacy@aucc.ca. AUCC will explain what the consequences are of withdrawing consent.
